Leon Kennedy. He’s kind of like a Tempur-Pedic mattress: soft where you want it, but firm where it needs to be. Leon is the kind of guy that boosts people’s faith in humanity and proves that chivalry isn’t entirely dead yet. Strong, brave, loyal, just, and honest, Leon seems to be the picture-perfect example of a modern-day hero… right? Right? Well, nine out of ten RE fans agree with these claims. However, nine out of ten RE fans look at him and see some Big Damn Hero: he spends his time roundhouse kicking zombies in the face even though he’s proficient in nearly every kind of firearm ever created; at the end of the game he saves the girl and beats the bad guys, all the while “flirting” with the smokin’ hot Ada Wong, tossing out badass one liners to the baddies, and doing all these things without messing up his incredibly fab hair! But— is that really who Leon is? Is he really that good?

The events that occur in Leon’s life stem from his overwhelming desire to do the right thing, his selflessness, and the constant nagging feeling of obligation he has to the world around him and everyone in it. One of the things that can be said about Leon Kennedy is that he’s a good man—probably the best in the series. He always puts the needs of everyone else before his own, even at the expense of his own happiness or well-being. He shows a consistent reluctance to step on anyone’s toes, and always does the right thing simply because it’s the right thing to do. While other characters in the series have gone after Wesker and Umbrella out of a personal vendetta, agenda, hatred, or seeking of revenge, Leon does so because of the innocent lives that he knows he’ll save. All he really wants is for the world to be a better place, for people to be able to sleep soundly in their beds at night without the fear of a bio-terror attack or a zombie apocalypse...
